Zelensky: “We cannot lose unity between the United States and Europe”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said he hopes the United States will “continue to support Ukraine, like all international partners” and that “unity between the United States and Europe cannot be lost.”
Zelensky has also warned that all countries that have been under Russian influence, those that were part of the Soviet Union, are now at risk of something similar to what is happening in Ukraine.
“The most dangerous moment is when there are people with Russian roots. I am not saying that this is bad, I am talking about what happened in Crimea. When you have people who speak Russian, who are of Russian descent, countries are at risk, that is what happened in Crimea, that is what happened in Donbas,” Zelensky said at a press conference after the international summit to mark the third anniversary of the war in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian leader also said that his country needs a “fair and lasting” peace. However, he said that “talking about justice at this time is very difficult, because of how Russia has handled the war. The people it has killed, thousands of people imprisoned, children stolen. We will never forget it, we cannot do that,” Zelensky said.
He added that he hopes that his international partners “stay on the same page and do not forget who started this unprovoked war. Those responsible must be held accountable.”
